Shaw Bassers

  2010/2011 Tournament Year

The Shaw Bassers brought to a close in July their 2010/2011 Tournament season.  This means that elections were held and the new Club Officers for 2011/2012, are as follows President: Ed Porcher, Vice President: Bob Baker, Secretary: Chris Black, Treasure: Don Wooten, Safety Officer/Sgt of Arms: Freddie Gamble, and Tournament Director: Bud Langley.

Also the Six Man Team was determined by our last tournament.  Listed as they finished the season Jimmy Counts, Don Wooten, Bob Baker, Freddie Gamble, Ed Porcher, Bud Langley, and Chris Black is the alternate.  We wish them the best of luck in the Six Man tournament in October 2011.

Shaw Bassers wish to congratulate Jimmy Counts for capturing the title of Angler Of The Year, nice going Jimmy.  Sportsman Of The Year was elected at our last meeting, but that name will not be revealed until the night of the Club Banquet.  Location will be announced at our August meeting .  The only thing left to do is announce who will be serving on the Special Events Committee, and the Tournament Committee.

Warning!!!!
Safety

We will be making recommendation's for safety reasons.  Our non-boaters present and future members will be required to know how to operate a trolling motor and outboard motor in case of emergencies, and be prepared to demonstrate those skills.  We will have a training program for     those that do not have these skills, and train them on what situation would require the use of the  trolling  motor or the outboard motor.

You should always keep an extra change of clothes either in your boat or vehicle just in case of      an emergency.  Make sure your boats safety equipment is working properly, including the boat   trailer.  Items to check are kill switch, bilge pump, batteries, running lights boat, trailer lights, trailer wheel bearings, and last make sure the outboard motor is running properly.  I would like to suggest  that if  you are fishing alone in the boat that you wear your life jacket at all times.  Those who wear    the inflatable life jackets should have a recharge kit, or one extra regular life jacket in the boat.

Next Scheduled Special Events

Our next scheduled event is the 20th annual Toys For Tots Tournament on October 22, 2011.

Tournament Schedule

This is our first tournament of 2011/2012 season, it will be 20 Aug 11 at Lake Marion, launching out of the Alex C. Harvin Landing.  This is a  night tournament scheduled from 4:00 pm to 12:00 pm,  hopefully the weather will be cooler than it has been all summer. Since this is a night tournament we want everyone be safe during the tournament.

Club Update

Chris Black has been letting  us  hold our meetings at his place of business, which we appreciate greatly.  I went to talk to our club sponsor Sumter Marine to let him know that we had found a place  to hold our  meetings.  During our conversation he said that they were getting ready to replace the roof and remodel the inside.  He stated that they were going to put a wall on the far end of the building which would give us a room to hold our meetings in, plus we would have a key to access the room anytime without them being there.  He also stated that they were adding a patio onto that end of the building which we could utilize to have a cookout if we wanted to.  He also wants to support our club more, and in the same token we need to support his business more.  He is looking for a sign board out around Shaw so he can put some advertising on for his business.

I recommended the Palmetto Web Solutions to Sumter Marine to build a website for them.  The website is being developed and should be launched very soon.  They will have a catalog for ordering items with next day delivery to your home address.  He will be putting a link to our website, and I will also  be adding a link from ours to his.

Thanks to Sumter Marine we will soon have a permanent place we can call home for the Shaw Bassers.
